Privacy
What happens to a file when you use the tools.
Processing on your device
The conversion, viewing, compression and inspection tools run inside your browser using WebAssembly. In this mode your files are read and transformed on your own device and are not uploaded to a server for processing.
You do not have to take this on trust: the guide Can a HEIC file contain a virus? shows how to check in your browser's Network tab that nothing is uploaded.
No account required
The standard tools do not require an account. You are not asked to sign in to convert or inspect a file.
Sensitive metadata
HEIC files can contain location, device and camera information. Where a tool exposes this data, it is shown to you locally so you can decide whether to remove it before sharing.
Analytics
Product analytics are intentionally coarse: which tool was used, the operation, success or failure, and anonymous page-performance timings. File contents, filenames, EXIF data and GPS coordinates are never included in analytics.
We also use Google Analytics to understand which pages are found and used. It is used for aggregate measurement, not for advertising, and it never receives your files: nothing a tool reads, converts or produces is sent to it.
Cookies and Google Analytics
The tools themselves do not need cookies and store nothing on your device. The only cookies come from Google Analytics, which sets them to distinguish visits and receives your IP address and the page you viewed. Google Analytics does not store your IP address (it is anonymised). You can block these cookies in your browser or with an extension, or opt out via Google's opt-out add-on.
Questions about privacy
Email hello@heic.fyi and the heic.fyi team will answer. Because we hold no accounts and no copies of your files, there is no personal data of yours for us to retrieve or delete beyond what Google Analytics holds under its own policy.
Future server processing
If a future feature requires server processing, files will be deleted automatically after a short, documented period, and the policy here will be updated before that feature ships. We will not claim a deletion guarantee that is not technically enforced.
